An Alternative to Traditional Nasal Masks
Are you still using a large, heavy nasal CPAP mask? Recent offerings have given users new choices in their style of
interface. A front runner of this move in the industry is the Respironics ComfortCurve.
This innovative nasal interface uses adjustable cheek supports to keep it in place. It has a small seal that contacts
but does not enter the nose. It also boasts a custom lightweight tubing system, included with purchase, that makes it
less likely to apply pull or torque to the interface and disrupt the seal. Early on, it certainly appears to be one
of the very best CPAP interface systems available.
Respironics knows they have a winner here and the resulting level of product launch fanfare has been impressive.
Here is a collection of the best stuff:

Worlds First CPAP Machine With Integrated Battery
The AEIOmed Aura CPAP is expected to ship near the end of May. The integrated battery
pack is planned for shipment June 15, and the integrated heated humidifier is due out by July 15th.
An integrated battery is a first for CPAP. The battery weighs 2.05 lbs and provides plenty of power
for all night operation at any pressure. It automatically charges whenever the machine is plugged in.
Anyone who has lost power in the middle of the night while wearing cpap is going to appreciate this
system's ability to "keep on blowin" with no action required of the user.
Cpaptalk.com will be conducting an interview with AEIOmed about this new machine. Before our manufacturer
interviews, we hold a community "Call For Questions" during which time anyone may post questions they
would like us to ask. The "Call For Questions" sessions also include sneek peak photographs and the newest
information.

Fisher & Paykel Thermosmart Technology

However, Fisher & Paykel is going a different direction. They will be unveiling their SleepStyle600 line with Thermosmart
Technology at the upcoming Denver APSS Sleep Meeting. This feature is rumored to significantly reduce or completely
eliminate rainout.
Fisher & Paykel's website, linked below, offers the following description of this technology:
ThermoSmart technology offers a unique heated breathing tube that allows the constant delivery of higher optimal levels
of humidity and the prevention of condensation, optimizing patient comfort and sleep.
We will be watching this closely and will report on it in our next newsletter.
