World's First Integrated Battery Powered CPAP

AEIOmed Aura Travel CPAP Machine with Rechargeable Battery Pack AEIOmed's first CPAP, the Aura, is now available with its all night integrated battery pack. The heated humidifier is expected out within a few weeks. AEIOmed is shaking the market up with a CPAP that truly addresses the home/travel market. Consider that:

1. The Aura has the first optional battery pack that fits in the CPAP footprint. The only other battery pack on the market, the Puritan Bennett, weighs in at 7 lbs and will not run heated humidifiers. The Aura battery pack weights 2 lbs and runs the CPAP and heater a full eight hours.

2. The battery is charged during normal operation. Power disruptions during the night are handled easily as the machine seamlessly switches to battery power and back again when the power comes back up. No other machine currently offers this feature.

3. Additional batteries are readily available and plug into the battery pack.

4. The Aura has the smallest foot print of any CPAP in the world. It is also the smallest and lightest CPAP/Heated Humidifier combination in the world. It has set new standards for travel and power features. It is great for airplanes, camping and backpacking as well as power interruptions caused by natural disasters or normal outages.

2005 Associated Professional Sleep Societies Conference

cpaptalk logo The CPAPtalk.com booth handed out nearly 3000 "Introduction To The Sleep Lab" DVDs to doctors and sleep labs at the recent Denver Associated Professional Sleep Societies (APSS) Conference.

Our DVD is a step by step explanation of what happens during a visit to the sleep lab. It is a must have for people who know they are going in for a sleep study or for that friend who needs to go but does not yet understand the risks or the process.

As our service to the CPAP community, we are currently offering our "Introduction To The Sleep Lab" DVD(s) at no cost to anyone who fills out our "Request By Mail" form.

Please make your doctors, sleep labs and friends aware that this tool is available and free!

Puritan Bennett 425 ST

Puritan Bennett 425 ST Bilevel Puritan Bennett has held the title of world's smallest Bilevel ST machine for many years. They are set to out do themselves with the new Puritan Bennett 425 ST which is due out August 1st.

Barely larger than their super small 420 CPAP line, this full featured machine provides the features of the big units with unmatched portability. Impressive.

The 425 ST will be available for pre-order on our website soon. We will follow up on it in our next newsletter.

Easy Breathing Technology Heats Up: C-Flex, SoftX and EPR

C-Flex is a feature that makes breathing back against CPAP pressure easier to do by creating momentary pressure drops as a patient begins exhaling. Respironics invented C-Flex and holds patents for its exclusive use.

Other manufactures are now bringing products to market with their own versions of easy breathing technology. Some time ago Invacare released the Invacare Polaris EX CPAP with SoftX that uses a valve system to bleed pressure off at the beginning of expiration.

Resmed is preparing S8 machines for a late August launch that have EPR (Exhalation Pressure Relief). The Resmed version specifics are largely secret but it is known that the specific pressure drop in centimeters at the initiation of expiration is adjustable.

We have been big supporters of C-Flex from the start. We said in our November 2002 CPAP Newsletter that we were:

"convinced that C-Flex will soon make fixed pressure CPAPs obsolete. Anyone who has had an opportunity to breath on standard CPAP vs C-Flex is almost sure to strongly prefer C-Flex"

This trend is a good one for an industry built on improving patient's lives.

The H3i Heated Humidifier will be available for pre-order on our website soon.

CPAP Machines of the Future

What features will successful CPAP Machines of the future have? We think the most popular machines sold over the Internet will have all of these features:

  • Automatic Pressure Setting. Machine will adjust to the patient's ideal pressure on a breath by breath basis.
  • User Adjustable Easy Breathing Technology. Machines will be easy to exhale out against.
  • Quiet, Durable and Travel Friendly.
  • Integrated Battery Power. Options will allow overnight sleep on a humidified CPAP when no power is available. Patients will be able to sleep through power interruptions with uncompromised treatment.
  • Effective Auto Adjusting Humidification. Humidification that adjusts to keep near 100% absolute humidity delivered to the patient with no hose or mask condensation. No more flu like respiratory symptoms and no more water in the hose!
  • Meaningful Data on CPAP Display. Simple patient access to snore, apnea and hypopnea data on the machine display with history so user can verify efficacy past and present and take action as needed. Machines will also advise patient of unacceptable results.
