CPAP News Letter - Issue: 4

Last month we spent some time introducing the new Respironics CPAP technology, "C-Flex". After breathing on this machine, I was convinced that CPAP had entered a new era. The machine feels amazingly like a much more expensive BiPAP. C-Flex is available now in the Remstar Pro model. The Respironics website page has a brochure adobe link at the bottom of the page. A note worthy sections of the brochure are presented below.

How C-Flex works: C-Flex tracks the patient's breathing to lower the anount of pressure delivered at exhalation. With three c-Flex settings, patients have the ability to select the level of pressure relief that's right for them. The amount of pressure relief delivered by the REMstar Pro with C-Flex is based on the patient's expiratory flow and the C-Flex setting. As you move through the settings, the amount of variable relief increases. This allows the patient to choose what they feel is the right level of pressure relief at exhalation - which makes therapy more comfortable.

Update on NasalAire interface system: Innomed still sells no replacement parts for this radical new patient interface. I suppose they will eventually relent. We have had enough of customers buying a system that is one size wrong and being unable to buy a different nasal prong part. We are now stripping brand new systems for parts and bagging those spares for sale.

Puritan Bennett finally has FDA approval for their little CPAP that fits easily into a brief case. Our best estimate of availability of this super travel unit is late January. A truly small travel unit is badly needed. We will try to get some details on this machine for our next news letter. Initial indications are it is a full featured unit, quiet, and of excellent build quality.

Users of the Nasal Pillow Breeze Sleepgear have been plagued with breakage of the Hose Guide. We have the latest of a long line of "better" hose guides in stock. This one is much, much better.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, we welcome your calls or emails.

Sincerely,

John Goodman
